In an update to news mentioned elsewhere, the sewing machine is in our loungeroom.
It is an industrial Singer model 195K1.
Here is a pic from a catalogue.
It comes mounted in the work table and looks in reasonable nic, and we got it for free!
As we live in an area where the rag trade predominates, there is a shop which sells various consumables and other parts. In discussion with the counter staff there, one guy said that the 195K is primarily a dressmaking model which is not intended for heavy use. We are wondering about the suitability of it for canvas and tent sewing.
It just sews a straight stitch, and only sews forward, i.e. does not do reverse. The other model, the 195K5, has the reverse lever... oh well!
From the manual which can be downloaded, the machine does up to 3500 r.p.m. and has a knee lifter action. Otherwise, everything is pretty straight forward.
It is about as ordinary singer as you might expect. It will probablt be great for sewing long dress hems.
